Law Schools

U.S. Law Schools. A total of 200 U.S. law schools are ABA-approved: 199 confer the first degree in law (the J.D. degree); the other ABA approved school is the U.S. Army Judge Advocate General’s School, which offers an officer’s resident graduate course, a specialized program beyond the first degree in law. Seven of the 200 law schools are provisionally approved. But only 22 law schools specialize in healthcare law (see U.S. News and World Report rankings below).

World Directory of Law Schools

Law Faculty

AALS Directory of Law Teachers. The Directory, begun in 1922, is the most widely used “desk book” of deans and law teachers. The Directory lists, by school, the full-time faculty and professional staff of all member and fee-paid law schools, contains biographical sketches of over 10,000 full-time teachers and law librarians, and lists full-time teachers by subject taught.

Law School Ratings

“No rating of law schools beyond the simple statement of their accreditation status is attempted or advocated by the official organizations in legal education. Qualities that make one kind of school good for one student may not be as important to another. The American Bar Association and its Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar have issued disclaimers of any law school rating system. Prospective law students should consider a variety of factors in making their choice among schools.”
