    • Congressional Research Service (CRS) (Gopher description)
The Congressional Research Service (CRS) works exclusively and directly for the Members and committees of Congress in support of their legislative, oversight, and representative functions.  It provides research, analysis, and information services that are required to be timely, objective, nonpartisan, and confidential.

CRS is renowned for its non-partisanship and in-depth analysis, but it does not make its reports available to the public. However, it cannot prevent members of Congress from giving them out individually and some government agencies from posting reports they find relevant. Perhaps 1000 have become available on the web. This site provides “one-stop shopping” to find them:

  • Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC)
Advises Congress on Medicare payment policies and other policy issues affecting Medicare and the broader health system. Replaces the Physician Payment Commission (PPRC) and Prospective Payment Assessment Commission (ProPAC).
  • Office of Technology Assessment
OTA closed 9/30/95.  Selected reports available through mirror sites.
